Cloud Computing, just like any revolution, is overturning so much that it’s leaving many people confused and pondering it’s implications and opportunities alike.

Several years ago, we found the same challenges in the area of Open Source So we hosted "The Great Open Source Debate" at the Open Source Business Conference (OSBC). That lively debate became the cornerstone of the Future of Open Source Survey, the Open Source Leadership panel, and associated thought leadership program.  Last year, we launched the Future of Open Source Forum.

Perhaps not surprisingly, Open Source has become a clear driver of Cloud Computing, as it commoditizes many elements of the platform on which clouds are built. In fact it was called out in our Survey last year – see slide twenty-four as a key point of impact for Vendors.

Since the success of that program we’ve responded to our collaborators interest, creating this as a place for industry thought leaders to collaborate and share their vision for the Future of Cloud Computing.  It will also serve as an anchor point for our collaborators as we develop our forthcoming Future of Cloud Computing survey. Effectively, we are taking a page out of our own book to bring you the “Future of Cloud Computing.”

Like Open Source, we expect that Cloud Computing will be at the core of many “game changing” industry events in the near future.  We hope you’ll find this forum, the views of our collaborators and forthcoming survey to be helpful to charting your own path through the clouds.
